The History of Isaac and Jacob

It has become quiet in the tent of Abraham and Isaac now that Sarah has died. Isaac cannot forget his mother. She always took such good care of him! Abraham also sees Isaac’s grief and he thinks: “When I die, Isaac will be entirely alone. Isaac needs a wife; he should get married. Then children will be born. Later they will become a great nation that may live in the Promised Land. Then the Saviour will be born.” Abraham calls his servant Eliezer, his best servant. He takes care of nearly everything that Abraham has. Now he may go on a very important errand for his master. “Eliezer,” Abraham says, “you must promise me something. You must not only promise me, but you must also promise the Lord. You must swear an oath. You must swear that you will see to it that my son Isaac will not marry a woman from this country. The Canaanites are an ungodly people. You must travel to the country where my family lives. My brother Nahor remained behind in Haran…
